Beyond Text Student-led Initiatives 2010

25 January 2010

This second round of the Beyond Text Student-Led Initiative scheme will provide up to 10 awards of up to £2000 towards the costs of setting up a training project, activity or event.

Closing date for applications: 25 March 2010

The aim of the Beyond Text Student-Led Initiative scheme is to support the establishment of innovative collaborative research training programmes, originated by and run for postgraduate doctoral students within the context of the AHRC Beyond Text strategic programme. This scheme provides seed money to support specialised subject or discipline specific research training to groups of students where it is not possible or cost-effective to provide the training in just one department or institution.

Arts & Humanities Research Council: Each year the AHRC provides approximately £100 million from the Government to support research and postgraduate study in the arts and humanities, from archaeology and English literature to design and dance. In any one year, the AHRC makes approximately 700 research awards and around 1,000 postgraduate awards. Awards are made after a rigorous peer review process, to ensure that only applications of the highest quality are funded. Arts and humanities researchers constitute nearly a quarter of all research-active staff in the higher education sector. The quality and range of research supported by this investment of public funds not only provides social and cultural benefits but also contributes to the economic success of the UK.
